Levy, an American who founded and edits the Prague Post , has known famed Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal since 1974. This moving account of his life and work is filled with Wiesenthal's outspoken comments and impromptu recollections. His wife, Cyla Muller, also was sent to a concentration camp; he assumed she was dead until their postwar reunion in Poland. Levy offers a controversial analysis of Wiesenthal's role in the debate surrounding ex-U.N. Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim, who became Austria's president. Wiesenthal called Waldheim a liar who concealed his knowledge of atrocities but concluded he was never a Nazi or war criminal. Journalist Levy describes Simon Wiesenthal's pursuit of various Nazi war criminals such as Adolf Eichmann, Raoul Wallenberg, and Josef Mengele. During the Holocaust, Wiesenthal spent over four years in a concentration camp and lost all of his immediate family except his wife. Initially, he worked with Americans to locate war criminals, but he became disillusioned with the Americans and founded the Jewish Historical Documentation Center. He felt the center would be more concerned with the rights of the victims. During his career, Wiesenthal brought almost 1200 Nazi criminals to trial. Levy illustrates Wiesenthal's commitment to "justice, not vengeance" throughout the book, also offering a critical study of Wiesenthal and his writings. As is the case with the Golden Guides, this little book is an excellent tool. It is not the most in-depth reading, however, but I am one who prefers to plan out heavy research, rather than stumble on it while I'm outside. It prevails where larger, more precise guides fail by being small and light. While you will get more information with other guides, none are as easy to carry on your person as this one. After all, what good is a field guide that weighs you down in the field?

How many fourth grade science reports have been written out of these little books by Zim? Back in the late 1950s (upper pleistocene to most), every kid worth his dinosaurs had a bunch of these nature guides (I lived with "Mammals;" "Reptiles and Amphibians;" "Rocks, Gems and Minerals;" "Fishes;" and "Insects")."Mammals" is a very handy sized book giving a picture of each U.S. (lower 48) mammal with a painting, short description of habits, reproduction, and range. In the back are found the scientific names (I find this handy as I can never remember them when sitting in front of my computer). Excellent for ages six and up.I considered "Mammals" good enough to order one for my six-foot-two son to put in his pack. Don't leave home without it!

A bit out of date but still gives good, accurate informations on the mammals of North America. I have used this book since I was a kid in New York City and when I moved with my family to the Hudson Valley south of Albany and found it most useful. I wanted a hardcover library edition an it's larger print is nice for my older eyes.

Great bargin, really good resource for quick mammal identification.

I'm currently collecting these Golden Guide nature books for my boy because they are what I grew up with. They are a bit dated but I love the artwork and the information is still quite pertinent. I hope to have the full collection before he turns 4. I just love these books.

Simple, nice illustrations. Would be good for middle schoolers.

Purchased for granddaughter, age 5, and she loves all of these books about nature. I read to her about the things she gets interested in by the pictures.

6 year loves this books. They are a good size for her and with lots of pictures. She uses the book to identify animals in our yard and has surprised me with how well she can find exactly the right animal.

The picture of Da Vinci's last supper was my favorite part of this book. It was breathtaking!What I love about this book were the pictures and the fun facts. They were so nice and awesome to look at. They pictures and facts the author put into this book makes me want to visit the Philippines for myself to experience what life there is like.I recommend this book to everyone.

This showed up on my Daily Deals feed since my Gen4 is in my Amazon Garage; and I love my Gen4 so I got it as well as the Chilton. I try to have paper and ink wiring diagrams of my vehicles for when there isn't internet access. Besides, they look good in the ManCave.I got both books used for the cost of one new. "Condition: Used - Good - This Book is in Good Condition. Used Copy With Light Amount of Wear. 100% Guaranteed." This seller, like almost all online book sellers, under-promises and over delivers. It looked like someone had thumbed through it once or twice and that was it. No brake dust, no grease, no mustard or ketchup. The pages have yellowed, but it is printed on pulp paper which does that over time and is to be expected. Arrived in a timely manner. Seller gets five stars.The deeper you get into a specific vehicle, the more you notice the gaps in both Haynes and Chilton. They both help you tinker, but are not the factory service manuals, and are not the tribal wisdom of the forums such as FirebirdNation. Some examples:Neither Haynes nor Chilton tell of the way to get the headrests off the front seats if you want to put seat covers on. (It is a convoluted pita, and you'll probably just take a pass on that and end up cutting a hole in the top of the seat back cover and velcro it back together.)Neither Haynes nor Chilton tell how to replace the headlamp motors or how to even gain access to that tucked away third way-back nut and bolt. (It requires YouTube or AllData and voodoo.)Neither Haynes nor Chilton tell you the trick to make easier work of the - not if, but when - you need to replace the fuel pump without having to drop the gas tank. (It requires reading the FirebirdNation forums that will tell you exactly where and what size to cut a trap door in the trunk platform just behind the rear seats. That advice came in very handy when the factory new "upgrade performance" fuel pump needed to be tinkered with the next day after installation.) Bonus hint: peek inside the new fuel pump before installation and make sure Nimrod at the factory didn't forget to put the internal hose on its nip.[Three strikes, and it gets four stars.]If you like your vehicle and want to keep it around, you'll want one of these (or both).

Haynes manuals are a great reference and almost required if you do any sort of work on your own vehicle. Want to know how to change that hard-to-reach marker light? How do you remove a door panel? What kind of fuse just blew? I buy a Haynes for every car I own, because its value as reference material is well worth the low price. These manuals assume a light mechanical understanding - reasonable, because if you don't have a basic skill set you probably shouldn't be taking your car apart.I've found the schematics and diagrams most useful in troubleshooting as well as in installing stereo and lighting gear, among other things. Highly recommended.

I grew up working on cars with a garage full of tools and the Haynes manual for whichever car I was working on. This book I think tried to cover too much and leaves a lot out. The pictures are the worst I've seen in a Haynes Manual and the descriptions are pretty cryptic. They actually make it look like they don't want you to do much work on the car yourself.I have a 2002 Camaro SS that I will not take to the mechanic unless I absolutely have to. Unfortunately this book won't be much help.

This book has been quite the help in my quest to better understand my car and how to maintain it. I haven't done anything complicated with it, but I feel a little more confident it knowing how to do basic upkeep with the help of this book. The pictures are all black and white so sometimes it's hard to make out some of the details. Also, I occasionally find myself wishing there were a photo to illustrate something that they chose not to photograph. It's worth the purchase though, and I'm glad to have it.

This book has paid for itself many times over, most jobs can be handled with basic tools ans about an hour. One example, some garage wanted $150-200 to replace water pump. I got the part from Advanced auto for $30 after 1 hour and about 10 bolts it was on, no leaks and car does not overheat anymore. Thanks

It's a beautiful book, but it is not in English and Chinese. Very disappointing.

wonderful book

We bought this at the Seattle exhibition of the terracotta warriors at Pacific Science Center. My daughter loves it. Our edition is only in English. I suspect that the fact that we saw the exhibit together helps pique her interest, but the story is very nice and I don't think that having specific familiarity with the terracotta warriors is necessary for a child to enjoy the book.

Don't buy if you're looking for a bilingual book. Extremely disappointing.
