Great comprehensive guide for this non-Idahoian to follow for positive gardening results. I'm sure it's going to be my #1 go-to. Was recommended by a neighbor who has been in the area for several years, also a transplant from elsewhere and she said it's the best Idaho gardening book she's found. Bought one for my new neighbor who also is not from this area!

We haven't gone totally through the book yet BUT seems chalked full of helpful information. Wether you aare a first time gardener, relocating to a new area or someone who's been doing it for years I can see how this book would help. I may come back and re-review once I have more time to go through the book more.

In trying to figure out what grows, when in McCall, Idaho, this book assists in every way. Month by month helpful steps to having a good growing season. Although the growing season is very short, there are native trees and shrubs that require some low maintenance, and this book gives you those tips, in order to have a great looking yard. Great price for such tips, shared knowledge, and problem solving.

This is a wonderful book for keeping up with your gardening tasks each month. Nice to not have to look up the numbers for your region to decide where you are in the whole scope of things. The book is well layed out and easy to use. If you live in Idaho.....buy it!

This is the best arranged gardening book I have found. The arrangement of information is a time saver as the reader can turn to the information needed quickly without searching.

It was a gift but my mother-in-law says it's been extremely helpful.

We purchased a new book but looks as if it is a used book. Not bad though. Not written in but pages have been folded and the binder shows that it has been opened many times. But we will be using it a lot and it should hold up for a few more years.

Bought the book as a Christmas gift for a relative. Won't know if they like it until after Christmas. It looks very good from my review of it.

Interesting novel, the original hypertext. Can be read two ways (and I'm guessing more) according to the front cover. My issue is not with the content of the book but the book itself. I've read the book the linear way - Chapters 1-57, and my book has started spitting out pages in the 250 range. Literally, 3-5 pages have fallen out of the book while reading. I bought the book brand new, this is my first time reading it, so I am frustrated.I have to read the book the second, hopscotch way, and am not looking forward to it with the falling pages.

This is forever one of my favorite books even though I have yet to finish all avenues it provides. The seller I purchased from was outstanding and got the book to me a week early along with a sweet handwritten note! Strong recommendations to anyone looking for a novel adventure.

In the narrative of Cortázar’s Hopscotch, he analyzes the game of hopscotch after the main character, Oliveira, engages with a clocharde named Emmanuéle on the streets of Paris: “One day you learn how to leave Earth and make the pebble climb into Heaven…the worst part of it is that precisely at that moment…no one has learned how to make the pebble climb up into Heaven.”Cortázar continues this idea about failing to reach Heaven in the game: “Childhood is all over…you’re into novels, into the anguish of the senseless divine trajectory, into the speculation about another Heaven that you have to reach too…And since you have come out of childhood…you forget that in order to get to Heaven you have to have a pebble and a toe.”The concept of hopscotch is practical, but Julio Cortázar’s book, Hopscotch, is anything but practical—it is profound. Some of the characters in the story understand the idea to play, most do not. Hopscotch is a set of two books, as told by Julio Cortázar in his Table of Instructions in the beginning of the book. Theses books are a tendril of timelines for Oliveira, because Heaven, according to the game and his actions and desires, becomes elusive to him. La Maga, the other main character, is Oliveira’s lover in Paris: She is an ever-present and formidable force to Oliveira, but this is not enough to for him to stay with her. Once more, the concept of the game of hopscotch is chalked on a Bohemian playground with La Maga, Oliveira, and a group of friends pushing, and some not pushing, the pebble. Eventually, Oliveira moves on to Buenos Aires, his homeland. In Buenos Aires, the playground (in due course) becomes a battlefield for Oliveira. Julio Cortázar’s meticulous sequence of events is portrayed with a party of three: Oliveira, Traveler and his wife, Talita. Arriving in Buenos Aires, Oliveira meets his old friend Traveler, who had been informed by Oliveira’s girlfriend Gekrepten that he was arriving. There is some resentment from Traveler with having Oliveira around at times; some of this is because Oliveira looks at Talita as if she is La Maga. In the course of the narrative, Traveler gets Oliveira a job in the circus, and then they decide to buy a mental hospital. Over time, the strain of his past terrain of failings and misfortunes manifest into a battle—a battle that Oliveira will not win.A notable mention about Hopscotch is Chapter 34: The poetic and artistic method that Cortázar employs in this chapter is ingenious. Oliveira relays two different articles of prose, line by line with a clear separation of thought.Hopscotch is a literary examination by Julio Cortázar that vanquishes the norm of novels. Thus, Cortázar’s poetic prowess to tell a story about a man, his desires and disappointments, and a childhood game of hopscotch is extraordinary.Julio Cortázar was a novelist, poet, musician, and a short story writer. (August 26, 1914 – February 12, 1984)Book Review OrangePostman .com

HOPSCOTCH by Julio Cortazar is more of a maze exploration than simply a good read, yet I became entranced with the prose.Initially I was attracted to the non-linear format of HOPSCOTCH. Cortazar wants us jumping in and out of the plot line in the main "novel" with seemingly off-the-wall interruptions, but they turn out to be connected after all by the "end." And then some of the juxtapositions are less sublime but equally effective, such as in chapter 14 when Oliveira is looking at Wong's series of pictures depicting an execution in China. As gruesome as the descriptions are, skipping next to chapter 114, I couldn't help but to internalize the absurdity of the "civilized" treatment in the San Quentin prison gas chamber.Anyway, HOPSCOTCH has in fact been a wonderful read but I think this is the kind of book that readers have to give at least fifty pages (even if that happens to be page 210) before the story grabs hold.

product is great

From the creative mind of Julio Cortazar, a disturbing book of an Argentine political exile living in Paris. His return to Buenos Aires is just as harrowing. Actually, two books in one as Hopscotch suggests.

Quick and Dirty Review: this book is impressive. It is a must read if you're a fan of the intellectual novel. I found myself having to "translate" it as I went, chapter by chapter, in order to keep up with all the literary, philosophical and historical references. This is not at all a plot-driven book, in fact it seems to be completely unencumbered by any kind of standard novel format. It can be read front to back, back to front, or in the "prescribed" order. Several of the chapters could be extracted completely from the book and stand alone quite nicely. Yet, it is a novel, with a crew of characters and settings you would love to be a part of. Latin American beatniks in 50's Paris? Perfect.I need to find my copy so I can go ahead and start rereading it, slowly, chapter by chapter.

Excellent

Our Bodies, Ourselves INTRODUCTION We are delighted to present Our Bodies, Ourselves—an in-depth look at women’s sexuality and reproductive health, from the first gynecological exam to sexual health in our later years. Since its first newsprint edition published in the early 1970s, Our Bodies, Ourselves (OBOS) has enabled women to learn about their bodies, gain insight from the experiences of other women, and consider how best to achieve political and cultural changes that would improve women’s lives. This completely revised and updated ninth edition, released on OBOS’s fortieth anniversary, covers topics ranging from sexual anatomy, body image, and gender identity to pregnancy and birth, perimenopause/menopause, and navigating the health-care system. This edition reflects the perspective and voices of a wide range of women, and their stories are told through new formats. At our invitation, more than three dozen women of all ages and identities participated in a monthlong online conversation about sexuality and relationships; we found their honesty and forthrightness so compelling that the conversation itself became the foundation of a new “Relationships” chapter. Other new voices include women’s organizations around the world that have created their own resources adapted from Our Bodies, Ourselves. Throughout the book, you will meet members of the Our Bodies Ourselves Global Network and read about their work on issues such as abortion, infertility, HIV education and prevention, and social activism. From distributing posters via canoes in rural Nigeria to setting up interactive websites in Israel and Turkey and reshaping health policy in Nepal and Armenia, their efforts exemplify movement building and the power of voices raised in action. This edition focuses on the core health issues—reproductive health and sexuality—that first brought the Boston Women’s Health Book Collective together. Some topics added over the years—such as nutrition, emotional health, and medical conditions that disproportionately or differently affect women—have been omitted this time, in part because information is now more readily available elsewhere. This has given us room to expand on issues such as reproductive rights, violence against women, and environmental health, which not only are centrally related to women’s sexual health and well-being but also are areas where, despite decades of advocacy and activism, women still face enormous challenges and obstacles that prevent them from leading safe and healthy lives. Our Bodies, Ourselves is both a text dedicated to factual information grounded in the best available evidence and a resource about health-care inequities and the work of those dedicated to ending social injustices. The many contributors to this book did not always agree on how to analyze the social, economic, and political forces that affect women’s health or how to characterize a medical controversy. When a conclusion remains uncertain, we have shared their questions and concerns so readers can make their own decisions in the absence of the kind of evidence we ultimately hope will be available. Our website (ourbodiesourselves.org) contains additional content, references, and useful links on women’s health topics not covered in this book.OUR BODIES OURSELVES GLOBAL INITIATIVE Ever since Our Bodies, Ourselves became a best seller in the United States, it has inspired women in other countries to adapt it—in part or as a whole—to their unique cultural needs. Through the our Bodies ourselves Global Initiative, we support more than twenty-two women’s organizations as they develop materials based on Our Bodies, Ourselves and use their resources in wide-scale outreach to advance the health and human rights of women and girls in their countries. Although the earliest projects were located primarily in Europe, we have since collaborated with organizations across Africa, South and Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, and Europe to bring culturally meaningful and reliable information to communities where it is most needed. As a result of our partnerships, resources based on the book are now available in more than twenty-five languages and in print, digital, and other socially interactive formats. You will read about our partners in the “In Translation” sidebars and we invite you to visit ourbodiesourselves.org/programs/network to learn more.As always, we recognize how the personal is often political and thus underscore when individual solutions are not possible or not lasting. Throughout the book, women who have joined with others to bring about change share their stories. The combination of practical information with political critique and women’s lived experiences has long been the hallmark of Our Bodies, Ourselves and is one of the reasons the book has remained one of the most enduring legacies of the women’s movements that grew out of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Much has changed in the United States since the first edition, when abortion was illegal, birth control was not widely available, and the few available texts on women’s health and sexuality—almost all written by men—discounted women’s experiences and perspectives. Today, information is abundant, but it is still difficult to find reliable information that encompasses the diversity of women’s experiences and teases apart the conflicts of interest inherent in many issues that affect women’s health. Far too often, corporate and pharmaceutical interests influence medical research, information, and care, and contribute to the unnecessary medicalization of women’s bodies and lives. This not only wastes money and poses avoidable risks but also can discourage women from questioning the assumptions underlying the care they receive and from valuing and sharing their own insights and experiences. The need for a book like Our Bodies, Ourselves remains as strong as ever. Changing the medical system, organizing for better care, and altering the larger social, political, and economic forces that limit women’s lives require creative and concerted efforts over a long period of time. We believe that enhancing reproductive health and sexual pleasure can play a significant positive role in all our lives and strengthen us as we work toward sustaining a vision of a world that will better nurture all women, men, and children. We encourage you to explore this book with curiosity and vision. I got this for my two teen aged daughters. They were kind of embossed and rolled their eyes at me but when I wasn't looking I think it was read, at least some. My older daughter refers to it as "the vagina book." LOL. As a woman who grew up with my own addition of this excellent book, I am proud to have the newest addition for my own girls...even if they roll their eyes!

I love this book so much. I had one of them whenever I was a young girl back in the early 70s my mom gave it to me and it was my go to for any and every question I had for anything. Now it is my turn to hand this off to my daughter and she will be able to look up things that she might not feel comfortable asking. Even though she knows that she can ask us anything. I highly recommend this for children who are 10-11 or older. You are never too old for this book it answers just about everything. This product was a personal purchase for myself at the normal retail/list price. I am reviewing it solely because I want to share my experience with other potential customers. I have received no compensation for my review nor do I have any relationship with the seller or manufacturer of this product.

I bought this book for my husband because frankly, he's not real skilled in the bedroom--he just doesn't seem to know where things are or how they work. The book arrived on the date promised and I put sticky notes on the parts I felt would help him the most and then I left the book in his favorite easy chair in the man cave. He didn't say anything, but late that week, on Saturday night, I could tell that he had read the book!!! I highly recommend this book for wives who want to educate their husbands on the ins and outs of the female body.

I've followed this book about women by women from the original edition decades ago when I lived in Boston. Today the medical fields still fail to help women really know their bodies, and this book remains the hallmark of information for women to learn and understand themselves. So grateful as a young woman in finding this book and group of sharing women. It has helped me through life, and now as I enter my 70's.

OK I’m going to date myself, but I was in college when this book first came out. During that time this book was an eye opener to things that were never discussed in women’s health. I ordered this book when I read they might not be publishing it anymore. This book is still on topic and though I might not need some parts of the book I now read the later in life parts (which I ignored when I was younger).

Excellent book for teaching young women and men about their bodies. Primarily written for girls and women of all ages (as it goes through menapause) there are aspects that are appropriate for boys and men... about themselves and also to educate themselves about the women in their lives.Quite comprehensive and easy to understand. A much older edition was what my mother got for me and my sitters when we were preteens And it was quite well read

I wlll miss the info and wisdom as this is the final edition. If you do not have a copy for yourself or your daughter I urge you to get one. Medicine is still behind in informing women of their health issues and needs.

Everything that you need to know about woman, it’s in this book. I found that this book very useful, very informative and it is also help mothers who want their daughter can understand easily how important to know about themselves and all about women’s world, history and take care their own body.

It's a good book for a woman to have. I got an earlier edition when I went to college 25 years ago. I bought this one for my daughter as she leaves for school this fall. (Although the earlier edition was worded better.)
