Deena R. Zimmerman, MD, MPh, IBCLC is a pediatrician for Maccabi Health Services and TEREM-Immediate Medical Care in Israel, as well as a medical advisor to the Jerusalem Breastfeeding Center. She has written a number of articles relating to women’s health issues and Jewish law and has lectured extensively on medicine, women’s health and Jewish law, and Jewish medical ethics. Rabbi Yehuda Henkin is a modern Jewish orthodox legal scholar and the author of, among other works, Equality Lost: Essays in Torah Commentary, Halacha, and Jewish Thought; Is Shaking Hands a Torah Violation?; and Responsa on Contemporary Women’s Issues.

Dr. Zimmerman is incomparable in her knowledge and experience in advising women on the practical, medical, and halachic issues surrounding taharat hamishpacha. She has written a very straightforward, empathetic, easy to understand guide to these laws and possible issues. Dr. Zimmerman has said that her original title for this book was "What I Wish Someone Had Told Me When I Got Married," which sums it up. If your kallah teacher has left these laws a bit murky or you have any questions - or even if you don't - this is a solid, quick read that will serve as a reference guide for life.
Dr. Zimmerman has done a fantastic job bridging a gap in knowledge about taharat hamishpacha (Jewish marital laws). This book does a great job of giving you a rundown of the basic principles and laws behind taharat hamishpacha. There is a lot of very practical information and just as importantly, this is not a sickly sweet propoganda piece touting the mystical nature of this mitzvah. Essentially, it is the modern woman's guide to taharat hamishpacha. Zimmerman offers solutions but encourages direct Rabbinic involvement if questions or problems emerge.There is great women's health information that other books ignore entirely. Zimmerman also provides information on contraception and infertility and how those can affect mikvah practices.
This book was written and organized very well. I was able to read through almost all of it in a 2 hour setting. The author talks to you like a normal person and details all of the relevant rules.

I ordered this book a few months ago and I still have not received it. I called the publisher and they said it in stock. Can someone at Amazon figure out what the problem is. This book is a great book for woman who need to learn the laws of Jewish Family Purity! I highly recommend it!
