It's a beautiful book, but it is not in English and Chinese. Very disappointing.

wonderful book

We bought this at the Seattle exhibition of the terracotta warriors at Pacific Science Center. My daughter loves it. Our edition is only in English. I suspect that the fact that we saw the exhibit together helps pique her interest, but the story is very nice and I don't think that having specific familiarity with the terracotta warriors is necessary for a child to enjoy the book.

Don't buy if you're looking for a bilingual book. Extremely disappointing.

As a dog lover who has had dogs since the age of two, this book had me on that emotional rollercoaster ride that happens when you love a dog so much, for so long and then one day they had to cross the rainbow bridge. I felt your love of Humphrey, such a tight bond! I felt your grief after he passed. I was right beside you during your journey trying to find answers. And I was cheering for you at the end of the book. Thank you for writing such a tender, sad and happy book! Isn't it strange how you can feel all those emotions at the same time? God less you sir.

When you love a dog, or any other animal, and share it's life, it's tough saying a final goodbye as it is with people you love, so this is a story of one way one person found to recover. Yes, I agree, one must grieve the loss, as well as share the love, but I would not trade the love of my dog for not having had her in the first place. Having lost other dogs, does not make it any easier, so I say give yourself time to grieve, regardless of what some folks say "it's just a dog" get over it. Nope, not on your life. Grief takes TIME.. lots of it. Don't feel guilty for feeling better one day, either, and getting another pet. It's honoring your lost pet by appreciating that pet, and adopting another. I loved this story and would recommend this to other brave souls grieving the loss of pet or person.

Generally, I steer clear of stories, especially dog stories, that have the potential to be sad or "too traumatic" for me to handle. Even the "Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover" stories can upset me for months to come. Currently, I am dealing with the imminent death of my 18-year-old Plott hound, so I definitely had a degree of trepidation when I ordered "Humphrey Was Here."Humphrey's story was deeply profound and, as hopefully you will soon read, he was taken from this world way ahead of his time. While this could have been a story with a whole lot of blame to go around, Mr Asher spent little time on that (other than blaming himself, which was undeserved, though certainly understandable). Rather, he took his experience and put it to positive use. The relationship that he shared with Humphrey glowed throughout every word. The healing that took place after Humphrey died was a long, arduous process, but the end result was truly remarkable.As a result of having read this book, I feel like I am in a better place to handle Hazel's death. Unlike Mr Asher, I have been granted the "luxury" of knowing that her "time" is going to be here soon. For anyone who has struggled with, or may potentially struggle with, the death of their beloved pet, I heartily recommend this book. Even if you don't have a pet, reading "Humphrey Was Here" will explain what you are missing by not having a pet and may even expand your horizons to consider getting one.

I got this book on my Kindle before vacation but never got around to reading it until today . I had time as I was at home recovering from a minor medical procedure . It was a little slow to start with , but very soon I was hooked . The problem is - I didn't realize that the book was about loss , so I was blind sided . The other problem is that I lost my own beloved dog at the end of May , so this book opened up wounds and feelings that I have been carrying around since then . I found myself in tears through much of the book , and I could not put it down .I guess this was the right book at the right time . Mark Asher felt a lot of the same feelings that I am feeling as I navigate this journey of loss . I also am not ready yet to adopt again , however perhaps it is time to find a way to help by volunteering in the rescue communityThe need is always great . Anyway , thanks for sharing your story Mr Asher . I , in turn , will share it with others .

I lost one of my dogs in January - my loss was different but also very unexpected - and even though I have read a lot of "pet loss" books, I have to say this one touched my heart more than any other. I went through a lot of the same emotions - and cried once again for my little girl - while reading Mark's story. This books strikes the right balance between Mark's story and Humphrey's story - it's a book I'll keep forever (and unfortunately will probably need to reread in the future). Also enjoyed learning about Best Friends. I have been tempted to do the same thing: go, stay and work through my emotions while helping out. I have never been able to do this - great to hear another's story.

This is a heart-wrenching love story about a man who loves and loses his best friend. My husband and I have loved, rescued, and lost more dogs in our 25 years of marriage than I want to admit, because it hurts so much. I thought I knew all about losing our beloved fur babies until recently, when we lost three within six months - the last two within a month. I can honestly say I've never felt a bigger hole in our lives. As soon as I began reading Mark's story of his life with Humphrey, I knew immediately how he felt. I cried long before he actually recalled Humphrey's death, and the tears never stopped. Mark Asher gets inside the heart of anyone who has truly had a companion animal - dog, cat, ferret, or any living thing that loves us with their whole being. I was inspired by his service to less fortunate animals, and how he finally came to terms with his loss. I felt my own heart heal a little just reading this book. I know most men don't like to share emotions, kudos to Mark Asher for doing so in such a heartfelt way. Hopefully, Mark has heard the story of The Rainbow Bridge, and finds comfort in knowing he will see Humphrey again. I'm so sorry for his loss.

I've been a vegetarian for my whole adult life but feel as though for the first time, with this cookbook, I have the told at hand to make the nutritious, vegetable-centric, flavorful meals of my dreams. If you're also a vegetarian, or a vegan, or just working more plant-based eating into your diet, buy this book and use it often!While I'm fascinated by vegan sausage and other "meat alternatives", I'm grateful that Timothy works depth of flavor primarily from vegetables and a serious array of spices. So far, I've made the gumbo z'fungi, the shiitake bacon (oh so many times - it's impossible to keep it in the house for more than a few days it's SO GOOD!) Even his recipes for things I *thought* I knew how to prepare well, like roasted brussels sprouts, are made more delicious by thoughtful seasonings, a hit of acid, and just time. These are smart recipes for people who love vegetables.Plus, the food photography in this book is seriously inspiring - you'll want to make everything!!!

I wanted to love this cookbook, I really did. The recipes look good, and the pictures are beautiful. It’s a hard cover, so you’d think the production qualities would be good. But no. There are missing ingredients that make it really tough to make several of the recipes. For example, there’s a recipe for mushroom onion gravy, but the ingredient list has no mushrooms. Zero. None. The instructions though indicate I should be frying them up. How many and what kind, we’ll, that would be essential to know.That’s not the only one either. Earlier in the book, the Author calls out shallots in a recipe as what makes it special. But, you guessed it, no shallots.Many of the recipes do appear to be complete, and different from many other vegan cookbooks I already own, which is positive, but not being able to make several recipes in the book make it frustrating at best.

I LOVE this cookbook! I have been worshiping Timothy’s photos for a long time and I litteraly want a coffee table so I can put this cookbook on it!! It’s GORGEOUS! And I made my first 2 recipes from it tonight and they were AMAZING. The “Crispy Garlic Potatoes” and the “Vegan Crack”...SO a good!! I am going to use the “Vegan Crack” tomorrow for another amazing meal! Can’t wait!!Thank you Mississippi Vegan!!(Updated to add - I have now made the succotash soup, garlic biscuits and eggplant couscous casserole and every one was amazing!! Especially the casserole! It’s going on the thanksgiving menu!)

So many cookbooks get lost on the bookshelf, but I know this is one that's going to get A LOT of use. I love that the ingredient lists aren't filled with too many obscure things; most of the recipes are made with ingredients I already have in my pantry today but are paired in such creative ways. I can't wait to get in the kitchen and try some of the many Southern-inspired dishes; gumbo, skillet cornbread, tofu po'boys, blueberry bbq sauce (BLUEBERRY BBQ SAUCE?!)...I'm pretty sure this book is going to be a staple in my kitchen. I might just have to buy a second copy so I can not feel bad about getting this beautiful masterpiece dirty!

This is hands down my favorite vegan cookbook! I own 150 vegan cookbooks (if this tells you about me) and this is my favorite. Everything I have made has been spot on delicious! Food I missed so much is back and authentically wonderful. Tim delivers on taste and complete satisfaction. I have bought multiple copies for family and friends. It is one of those perfect cookbooks that does not disappoint.Side note- one reviewer stated there are missing ingredients in some of the recipes. I checked and they are incorrect. This reviewer did not read the instructions correctly. It is a book you can depend on.

Like many of the other reviews have stated, even if you never cooked a single thing from this book, it is absolutely stunning... but you’ll also want to actually make the recipes — because they are mouth wateringly fantastic! No, it’s not a 30 minutes and 10 ingredients or less type cookbook, but you can tell from the complexity of these recipes that Timmy is a master of vegan cooking, and the time/extra ingredients are well worth the depth of flavor you’ll achieve.As a longtime vegan, I’ve tried my hand at most all of the “bacon” substitutes, but potato will be my new go to when I’m craving a BLT, thanks to Timmy. Knowing how great that turned out, I can’t wait to try my hand at, well, every recipe in this book. And of course, with okra in my fridge there will be gumbo in my near future... and blueberry bbq tempeh... and... just do yourself a favor and get this cookbook!

I've never fully read a cookbook. Sure, I skim what the author says and make the recipes, but sitting down and reading? Pfft. When I tell you to read this cookbook, please read it. You will learn things. Even if you are a seasoned chef or seasoned home cook, you will learn something new.The photography is beautiful. I have the book out on my table or counter at all times, if not for anything except for company to look at the photography. I pre-ordered Mississippi Vegan and have made several recipes so far: Mama's Pralines, turnip greens, Mama's Rosemary White Bean Soup, shiitake bacon, Comeback Sauce (I used it to dip fries and veggies and as a sauce for vegan burgers) and lastly I made his skillet cornbread recipe to go along with the white bean soup. I'm picky with my Southern food, especially, and every last recipe was amazing. This cookbook is not filled with quick 2 minute prep and 15 minute cook and you're done. No. Timmy's recipes are a labor of love, reminiscent of being in my Southern grandma's and mama's kitchen. Timmy's recipes are also delicious, and that's the most important thing, right? If you like Southern food--real, true Southern cooking--I recommend Mississippi Vegan to vegans and omnivores alike.

It seems like a decent atlas but I'm returning it because I also bought the spiral-bound version (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0841629129/). I prefer the latter because it covers a greater area and is easier to use because of its spiral binding.

This is an excellent book for those new to the field of chromatography and for those who would like a 'general' review of the theory and concepts. The mathematical concepts are a little watered down (compared to the Giddings text), but this one offers a fantastic practical approach, including: GC and LC instrumentation, columns, brief-but-to-the-point chapters on method development, CZE and CEC, sample prep., and an excellent chapter on special applications. I am a graduate student in chemistry, and after drudging through the endless equations in Giddings' book, Miller's text was a breath of fresh air. It offers a much more practical and understandable approach for the use of the equations during a real chemical separation for a novice chromatographer (and I'm sure as a great reference for an expert too!). Overall, I highly recommend this book-- it gives life to theory of separation science.

I still use this book today after owning it for more than 2 years now. It was a really great buy.

The text is readable, but tends to be somewhat repetitive in parts. There seems to be some sections that could be covered more in depth, but for a general overview of chromatography, this books seems to be decent enough. In the graduate course I'm taking, this text book is supplemented with journal articles to fill in some of the missing depth. This structure seems to work well.

That’s what the author tries to unveil here, as he takes the readers on a trip down memory lane

One person's look at the amazing spectacle that was the 2017 Indy 500. Borroz is engaging and literate and clearly knows that of which he writes...I found myself craving a St Elmo's shrimp cocktail.... you may too. It only suffers from its brevity, but as a personal recollection it's wonderful. The only low point is the author's shameless referral the the ABC commentators as "lackwits"...do the job just once Tony and you'll find just how difficult it is. Also, please do let us know when you have as many F1 podiums as Eddie Cheever, let alone an Indy win. Ignore this short bit of inanity though...read the rest and understand why we so look forward to May in Indy each year.

why not write a real Indy 500 book? A little more imagination. humor and research. And put a little feeling and grab the ghosts

Bricks and Bones has heart and soul. You can smell the exhaust and burning rubber in Borroz's writing.

Great read, I did not. Want it to end. I have been to every Indy 500 since 1960 this book does it justice.

In lieu of a biographical resource author /journalist Tony Borroz shares what we need to know about this treasure trunk of memorabilia and facts and realities of the ongoing miracle event - The Indy 500. In these few words he puts us there in the place we are about to explore: ‘Conflicting Emotions - I’m sitting in Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, between here and there, between desert and farmland, between my glowering past and my immediate future. I am calm, but my mind seems to be screaming out in a thousand different directions at once. Everyone tells me I should be feeling happy or excited or sad or tired or respectful or lonely, but I’m all those things and none of them at the same time. At the moment, I am still.
