This is an excellent book for those new to the field of chromatography and for those who would like a 'general' review of the theory and concepts. The mathematical concepts are a little watered down (compared to the Giddings text), but this one offers a fantastic practical approach, including: GC and LC instrumentation, columns, brief-but-to-the-point chapters on method development, CZE and CEC, sample prep., and an excellent chapter on special applications. I am a graduate student in chemistry, and after drudging through the endless equations in Giddings' book, Miller's text was a breath of fresh air. It offers a much more practical and understandable approach for the use of the equations during a real chemical separation for a novice chromatographer (and I'm sure as a great reference for an expert too!). Overall, I highly recommend this book-- it gives life to theory of separation science.

I still use this book today after owning it for more than 2 years now. It was a really great buy.

The text is readable, but tends to be somewhat repetitive in parts. There seems to be some sections that could be covered more in depth, but for a general overview of chromatography, this books seems to be decent enough. In the graduate course I'm taking, this text book is supplemented with journal articles to fill in some of the missing depth. This structure seems to work well.

Borroz is engaging and literate and clearly knows that of which he writes...I found myself craving a St Elmo's shrimp cocktail.... you may too. It only suffers from its brevity, but as a personal recollection it's wonderful. The only low point is the author's shameless referral the the ABC commentators as "lackwits"...do the job just once Tony and you'll find just how difficult it is. Also, please do let us know when you have as many F1 podiums as Eddie Cheever, let alone an Indy win. Ignore this short bit of inanity though...read the rest and understand why we so look forward to May in Indy each year.

Great read, I did not. Want it to end. I have been to every Indy 500 since 1960 this book does it justice.

And there ends the prologue, a long and rambling regurgitation of facts to paint the picture of the desperate world in which this story is set.Yes, the theme 'Gods and Slaves' could be construed as somewhat epic in nature and worthy of receiving a different treatment than is the normal for this author, but gone is the classic Bella in the struggle to master the style of his new narrative. The signature first person perspective is replaced by third and immediately the bond between protagonist and reader that is a feature of his other serials is lost. We are not along for the ride, knowing and feeling every lesson that is learned, ever desire that is had, in a manner that is as intimate as we have come to relish and expect. Don’t get me wrong, I like third person and know that done correctly a reader can feel as close as if we experienced every nuance of feeling, every thought, fear, anxiety and triumph as if it was our own, but not in this instance.Much of the narrative, at least in the first half of the book is repetitive, disjointed and even a little boring. The information in the prologue almost overwhelming and unnecessary. I missed the mystery of the revelation, the pinpoint focus at the start that slowly blossoms into full knowledge the more the story progresses. I know from having read previous series by this author that this is something he knows how to do but for some reason fails to do it in this case.Am I still then tempted to read more? Do I want to know if Mateo will gain the freedom he desperately desires? Has the story instilled in me empathy sufficient to see him overcome his adversaries? Maybe. But Mateo is an anomaly, a character that has proven himself shallow. He has experienced a loving background from which he has been irrevocably torn, and rightly, harbours loathing for the master that treats him as a desirable but ultimately dispensable asset on the journey to his own betterment and his standing in the eyes of his avarice and fickle gods. Mateo has an understandable determination to win free, and intelligence enough to realise he can use the desire of others for his own purposes, BUT then he finds himself stirred by a being that is his ultimate rapist and the reason for his despicable situation in the first place. He doesn’t know why he is drawn to the god Eloy, why the god arouses desire in him… and ultimately neither do I.

I've always been a fan of NB's work. All his books are different and pulls you in. But this, THIS was just absolutely BRILLIANT. From the first sentence to the last, I was captivated by the story he weaved. The way he writes, pulling you into the story, cheering Mateo on, wanting him to succeed. The world he created was just...WOW! This is by far his best work and I'm looking forward to the next book. I highly recommend this book. It won't dissapoint and it is so worth it.

Well...if Master Bella has not gone and done it again! This was so bloodydamn great. My heavens...and so worth the wait! It has been at least 6 months since we began to be teased with promises of gladiators, hard core sex, graphic violence and language and this one delivers...and delivers brilliantly.I cannot wait to see where this goes from here.The world building here is just so well done and the characters being formed rival what I loved so much about The New Haven Series. Mateo is such a strong and incredibly rich character and of course seeing how his relationship with Eloy grows or changes as the story progresses will be just awesome to see. Plus there is Titus, who I love already."In the earlier days since arriving at the ludus, Mateo had been meek, afraid and uncertain of what would be his fate. He now had some understanding, and he also began to see that if he were to survive, he had to cast away whatever timid feelings he had. He was in a world of warriors and barbarians. They were used to taking what they wanted, giving no apologies, and killing for sport and glory. If he was going to rise in status, he had to become someone new, someone without fear and doubt. He had to become a gladiator."Indeed he does.I cannot recommend this one enough! Bravo Master Bella on another winner!!

Lol and how very fitting it is to the story!We have a book detailing a world where gods have taken human form and have inhabited the earth. The intention was to cleanse it all and make it a “better”place... but that’s subjective... not everyone wanted to worship the earthly gods of wind, earth, fire and water... so they departed to the far off lands, the badlands so to speak. From the badlands humans were hunted and taken as slaved because they believed the people of the badlands were unworthy therefore any and everything could be done to them.... and so the story begins!A cruel tale with battles and survival! How quickly and not so quickly we end up doing things just to live!Beautiful! I cannot wait for book two! The smut is real by the way lol for real! Lol5 unique stars!

Streetwise maps have always been my favorite. The last time I went to Edinburgh I couldn't find a Streetwise map and my GPS on my phone was getting confused by all the upper and lower roads around the castle. I bought a different map and it was OK, but find this one is easier to read and locate my position and doesn't take up too much room when it is unfolded - and it folds back up in the correct position really quickly and easily.

This was a very helpful item while navigating Edinburgh. If, like me, you don't have a cell phone that you can use overseas and have to rely on old fashioned maps, this one was really handy. Small enough not to take up room but large enough to read. And the lamination was absolutely necessary b/c it rains so often there.

Purchased this for a recent trip to Edinburgh, but found print so small it was hard to read. Like the size and sturdiness, but doesn't mean much if it's difficult to read.

Great map! Shows not only the city of Edinburgh up close, but also a great general outline of Scotland. We plan on driving the North Coast 500 and this map will definitely come in handy.

Streetwise maps are my go to travel maps. I travel a lot and these are easy to read laminated maps. They fold easiely to fit in a travel bag or coat pocket. I worked in a luggage store for a couple of years and always recommend these maps !

We love Streetwise maps. We do a lot of traveling and always get these maps for cities we visit. They are sturdy, don't fall apart when they get wet and fold up to fit in your pocket

Excellent map, sturdy and waterproof. Instead of the small map of all of Scotland, which was not useful, a guide to the bus system of Edinburgh would have been useful. A blow up map of the Old Town would also have been useful, especially if it could have indicated the main Festival and Fringe venues.

Perfect asset to find your way around the city.

Having recently tried and loved my first fondue experience, I decided to recreate the meal at home and purchased a fondue kit! But admittedly when I think of fondue, the first thing that comes to mind is cheese accompanied with bread, and chocolate along with strawberries! I knew there must be more out there and as a family that loves to cook decided to go with this book to accompany the fondue!I made the right decision!! There are so many excellent , out the box type suggestions as well as the more ordinary! The recipes also suggest what you should serve as an accompaniment to each type of fondue and I am fully confident I can find something my kids will live (desert ideas aside) that will have them munching raw veggies with some delicious fondue accompaniment!For the Fall I cannot wait to try the sweet potato with chipotle (and it looks rather simple to make - this book has easy, concise steps); followed by the white chocolate with ginger!I am determined that my Fondue will not follow the path of my ice cream maker and juicer (ie life in the cupboard) and become a regular fixture at mealtimes! This book might just make this happen!Easy to follow, simple fun recipes that use readily found ingredients and had something for every season, taste or age!! Love it!

This is a well organized and easy to read guide to making fondue but let me emphasize the word guide. The recipes included are a good start but the instructions do not provide adequate detail to actually make the various fondue dishes. For example, there is a recipe for caramel fondue (what an excellent idea!) but the instructions are very short and include no reference to specific cooking time or temperature. Anyone who has made candy knows that this is vital information. So, while this book was a good start that gave me ideas, I had to look elsewhere for specific recipe instructions on making the various dishes.

I've been doing fondue since I was a kid and rediscovered it about 15 years ago. I bought several books and this was by far the best. First and foremost, anyone skilled in cooking gives you the basics to start with. Fondue is not as easy as people think. The section on Etiquette was quite enlightening because as family, we broke most of those rules.The second reason why this is the best fondue cookbook is because of the breadth of recipes. If people have dietary restrictions, abstinence from alcohol or other issues, you can find at least a dozen recipes in the book that will satisfy them. Third, regional tastes are included.This is my second copy too. Not sure what happened to my first one.

really like this book - every recipe has color picture which is soooo important to a cook - quality paper will withstand longtime use - ingredients are not: run-all-over-town to find and each recipe I've made so far has been delicious and guests must have liked ( they ate until the pot was empty! and asked when I'm having them back)

The recipe for the authentic swiss fondue is worth the price of this book alone, and that's just a single recipe. Very authentic, tastes like the real thing I had so many times in Switzerland. Highly recommend.

I tried fondue cooking for the first time and I used this book to get all of my recipes. The items I made were the swiss cheese fondue, midnight chocolate and 4 dips for dipping cooked meat and vegetables into (ponsu sauce, bernaise, peanut butter and mustard). Everthing was absolutely delicious. It was such a success that I actually felt like I was at a fondue restaurant. I'm usually very critical of my own cooking yet I couldn't find a bad thing about any of the recipes I tried. I look forward to another fondue day with new recipes. Also very good information about various types of pots and recommendations on ingredients. Highly recommend this book for beginners or experts.

Bought this book for my SIL who is a fondue lover. We tried a recipe before passing it off. It was a chocolate fondue with marshmallows. Very yummy! lots of the fondue recipes do use wine and other things alcoholic, but that might be able to be subbed with something else if you don't drink like us.
