Everyone has a worldview (the way that they view the world), and it is influenced by what they are taught and believe. As a Christian living right down the road from Zion and Bryce, I really appreciated the worldview of the authors. Instead of rehearsing the script we all have heard in school and that is posted in the parks, the authors let the Bible be a basis for understanding why these places are the way they are. If you are open to hearing their reasoning, you might realize that there is a lot of wisdom there. It really challenges the problematic yet accepted theories of our culture. Plus, as a guidebook for acclimating myself to these parks, this was very helpful, practical, and professionally done. I have already bought another one as a gift for a friend.

Will be traveling to the area in June and will first use this guidebook to plan my itinerary. Beautiful photographs.

These guides proved a great resource for planning our National Park Trips and for understanding the significance of the Parks.

I just love this book. It has 'Creation' in mind but not to the loss of geological information, animal kingdoms, hikes, flora, history, or anything else. A gorgeous book and a delightful and interesting read. You'll like this even if you are not tuned into the Great and Mighty One who made all of Bryce and Zion, but He made us as well. It is beautiful and colorful and inviting to just sit and look at. Have fun with this one.

From someone who does not normally write reveiews, I was compelled to do so for this book because the authors clearly misrepresented it. (I couldn't agree more with Wendy of Portland, OR and George Walford of Canada... be sure to read their reviews too.) The "new perspective" is just a fundamentalist view, one that I can not subscribe to. As a Catholic engineer, I was not able to relate to most, if any, of their theories about how the canyons were created. (And, I have to say, that I really WANTED to believe these ideas because what a wonderful idea that we could have evidence of the bible in our own backyard.) The authors repeatedly point out geologic features and then will discuss how these things could not occur in nature. Then, quickly jumps to a biblical reason for the feature. Far fetched is an understatement!That said, I must say that the book does have some beautiful pictures throughout and I love the spiral bind. But, this is not enough to gain more stars. I was able to get through it in 30 minutes or so and it will definitely NOT be a book that I bring along on my trip. Don't waste your time or money. I can't even ethically sell mine to some unsuspecting sucker... to the dump it goes!

The book has at least 14 quotes/passages/references to the bible. In a travel guide book really? I wanted a guide book to Utah not religion. The authors even go to the extent that some dead pine trees cannot be 10,000 years old because this goes against the Noah flood teaching. Wow! Tree rings have a long reliable scientific standing unless you want to bend it to your faith apparently. I thought I was totally swindled with this book until I discovered that the pages were flammable. I will put the book in my camper for fire starter. Buy another guide book and have fun in Zion and Bryce canyon folks.

The title and even back of this book could not be more misleading.I was very excited to receive this book. It is beautiful and well made. I read the front and the back. It still appears like a normal hiking guide.Flip to the Forward of the book for an idea of what this really is. The author asks "How can something so beautiful be the result of destructive natural forces?" He then jumps into Genesis and other biblical references.I wanted a guide with beautiful photography to plan my trip to Zion and Bryce. I received a pretty picture book full of religious rhetoric.

I just passed exam 70-480. I wanted to wait until after I took the test to review this book. First off, believe the other reviews who say this book is full of errors: it is. I didn't believe it could be so bad, but it is. There are also lots of type-o's and grammar mistakes. It's like this was rushed to print with absolutely no editing or proof reading. The only good thing I have to say about this book is: once I realized how many errors there were, I double-checked everything myself to make sure what the book said was (or wasn't) accurate and that helped me learn the material better. As far as learning the subject matter, you are better off with the Training Guide. As far as prepping for the test, you are better off with the Transcender and/or Measure Up practice tests. If you only rely on this book to pass the exam, I can pretty much guarantee that you will not pass. I'm going for other MCSD exams next and the reviews of other Microsoft Press books are even worse than this one, so I will not be purchasing any more Microsoft Press books; I've learned my lesson.

Because the exam covers such a wide range of technologies (HTML5/Javascript/and CSS3), this book glosses over many concepts. While this book provides an introduction to these technologies in most chapters the book does not cover important concepts in sufficient depth to pass the exam.In particular, Delorme Chapters on Objectives 1.5 and 1.6 do a very poor job of laying out the features of Javascript. The Javascript language has type, scoping and inheritance issues that are unique to its syntax. Programming in Javascript requires a solid understanding of these issues. I would recommend Dane Cameron’s book “HTML5 Javascript & JQuery” as a much better alternative to Delorme. Among the many Javascript outages in this book are:• === operator• Call and apply methods• This keyword – while covered on page 91 needs a great deal more explanation• ClosuresI would have preferred more and better coverage of the new HTML5 elements and less coverage of the many graphical elements that while interesting are not that important for the exam.I have found other “Exam Ref” books much more useful in preparing for exams than this book. I usually review the material in these books in the hours immediately before the exam to make sure I have a familiarity with all the topics which an exam will cover. I would recommend alternative summary materials for the Javascript portion of the exam.

Ordered for exam, just in case I failed first attempt. Fortunately/unfortunately never had the chance to use this as I passed the exam a day before they arrived. The entire exam was focused around antiquated xmlhttprequest DIY AJAX, which is not stressed in this book as much as it is on the exam. Perhaps the questions are randomly selected?

First edition: This book contains so many typos and errors that it will make you a better programmer by keeping you on your toes. It was written in 2014 and not updated since. I give it a low grade, but where else can you go for 70-480 exam prep? This book alone will not get you there so it’s a good starting point. Sorry Microsoft and Mr. Delorme, you must come up with a corrected second edition or get the wrath of few stars.

This book has a lot of glaring errors in it. The whole bit about overloading JS functions is just wrong; there's no functionality like that in JS, but the way the example is written makes it appear to work because of the way that JS allows you to call a function without defining the arguments that it takes. Truly terrible research; it's clear that Rick Delorme just assumed that if this worked, JS must have function overloading, without bothering to understand the language. Another example is the part about using JSON to transfer data via AJAX, which consistently fails to quote the keys, in spite of the fact that valid JSON must have double-quoted keys. Again, because this happens to work in the browser, Mr. Delorme thought it was actually valid.Unfortunately, due to all this confusion, it's not clear to me if the test is going to have these kinds of errors built into it.

Seems to be a good book to prepare the exam however it has errors in text which may mislead or confuse you. The sample questions are also misleading or unclear so you may make mistakes. It is unexpected a book from Microsoft written like that.

They need to proofread the quizzes. There were several objective reviews questions that had errors in wording causing the answers that were supposed to be correct to be incorrect.

No complaints about the book.Whereas, I gave 4 stars because the book arrived in bad condition.Pages 1-39 folded half way through, all most all of the pages in the book had folding marks, signs of mishandling the package while it was packaged/shipped.I have never seen this kind of mishandling by Amazon shipping till date. So bit concerned.

I wish the authors had not taken references in 1970s television stories to the Cold War having ended as evidence that those stories were set in the future (p. 2041). The fact is that in the 1970s era of détente it was routine (if in retrospect misguided) for politicians, commentators, and the public to refer to the Cold War in the past tense.2. The coverage of real-life UK governments and their appearances (or existence) in the Doctor Who chronology appears on pages 2085 to 2089 and has some problems. The recording of Theresa May’s 2016 election result on page 2087 is inconsistent with the conventions used earlier in the list, for a minority government is given as having a 0 majority earlier in the list but as having a negative majority in the 2016 case. John Major became prime minister on November 28, 1990 not “27th November, 1991” (p. 2087). Labour did not "form a government" with the Liberals in the 1970s, and the Liberal-Labour pact was in 1977---not in the aftermath of the February 1974 election (p. 2085). One could also point to televised evidence (and not just evidence from a Doctor Who novel) that Edward Heath was Prime Minister in the Doctor Who universe in 1970, as in Terror of the Autons episode 2 a character is reading the Financial Times of July 23, 1970 with the visible headline “Maudling Hesitates on Use of Troops After Union Offer” (Maudling was a minister in the Heath Government).3. No month or specific year is endorsed by the authors for “The Mind of Evil” on page 2068. but a Doctor Who novel is cited as giving it as occurring in October 1970. Actually there is firm on-screen evidence of a date, for the Master is shown reading the Financial Times of November 3, 1970.4. On page 2086, the authors go for a July 6 date for "The Android Invasion," and they later give the story as preceding the Brigadier’s retirement from UNIT (p. 2088). However, what these assignments of dates do not take into account is that newspapers of August 8, 1975 are clearly visible on-screen in episode 1 and that these images must be from Crayford’s memories of his life on Earth, which ended two years before the Earth scenes late in the story. Conclusion: The Earth scenes of "The Android Invasion" occurred in 1977, and the Brigadier’s absence from those scenes is consistent with his having retired in late 1976 or early 1977, as per “Mawdryn Undead.”5. On page 2104, the authors suggest July 30-31, 1977 for the date of “Image of the Fendahl” while suggesting that there is no specific on-screen evidence for or against a 1977 date. In fact, a character in the story is seen reading The Times of August 19, 1977 in episode 1.

Volume Two (of Three) has just been released, and it's definitely a keeper. The middle volume in the series deals with what is probably the bulk of TV's Doctor Who since the BBC spent a LOT of time on "Present Day" Earth for budgetary reasons. This volume begins with the First Doctor in 1963 and continues to the end of the Peter Capaldi era - on "Present Day" Earth at least - in 2017. This is also the volume which will cover UNIT, Torchwood, SJA, etc.Contents 29-ish pages: Complete Table of Contents 9-ish pages: Introduction, basic info, key to abbreviations (read this first) 331-ish pages: Entries and footnotes for "Present Day" Doctor Who ..with about fifty pages dedicated to UNIT 107-ish pages: Galifrey - Details from the TV series, the BF Series, the works! 2 pages: Bibliography 1 page: AcknowledgementsNote 1: Looks like they are saving space across the three books, so there isn't much in the way of duplication. Ex: I doubt there will be anything about the Thirteenth Doctor, but there is always the possibility of an addendum.. ..otherwise Fifth Edition here we come!
