I told myself never attempt to run a marathon again after 2008 but that was what I said to myself in 2006 & 2007 but everytime when I looked at the Finisher Tee which states "Finisher of 42.195km", the adrenaline inside me automatically spurs me to go online and register knowing that I will curse and swear again.
Similarly for this year, I attempted again but I can say that the feeling is 10x (yes..its 10 f**king times) worse compared to the previous runs that I have participated; especially the last 10km (somewhere starting from the marina golf course towards marina barrage).
Definitely, the full marathon route did provide a sense of new challenges and also our island's iconic views as compared to the usual route the previous organizer planned. This year, it kicked off at Orchard road and ran past areas such as Chinatown, Tanjong Pagar, Raffles Place, Esplanade, Marina Floating Platform, Singapore GP F1 Pit, Fort Road, East Coast Park (to and fro), Marina Gold Course, Marina Barrage, Marina Bay Sands and end off at Padang again.Clear Open Sky (thats great!), Scotching Sun (thats bad!), no water points, no medical coverage.. these 4 factors would be enough to kill someone who had covered at least 30km on legs. That is the point where you will just keep your heads low and keep walking/running with the thought and motivation you would get to see a water point ahead. By the way, this paragraph is dedicated to the Marina Golf Course/ Marina Barrage Route.
Being someone who is very capable physically, this is also the first time I felt my legs went dead on me. It went so dead that even walking is a pain. Once you stepped past the starting line, there is no point of return unless you finish the run at the designated end point. Simply to say, you are "f**ked".
You will ask yourself....
"Why on earth you would pay money to torture yourself?"
"Why are you here.. doing this?"
Guessed the only complain I have would be the East Coast Park Expressway portion (In front of Marina Bay Sands). It is a 1km up-slope which everyone has to overcome. Without forgetting the fatigue in your body and the hot weather, this portion is definitely the climax of the run.
Enough of all the ranting and complains as it is over for about 2 weeks. The only blessed thing I ever get from this marathon is no injuries despite zero training.

Now the next question is: Should I try again in 2011 ?
(lol)
