Back...with a blast

So many things to update since last post..

I came to realized that work is forever problematic but it is how we look at it and address the issue. In order to address the issue, we have to acknowledge it. With this in mind, you won't dread about work matters but instead, just move on... i have developed a mentality that I have to put my 100% during the hours I am at work and learn how to balance the rest of my life.

But I am just glad that the worst is over... it was a hell period from Nov to Dec 2011.

I was interviewed by my boss for my performance grading and was also glad that I was in the top few despite my first year in the company.. It's a good start to my career but the difficult part is to sustain the drive to maintain the same grade (if not better grade) for the next FY.

Thus, I have told myself and gave myself some goal settings for FY 12/13. I will be doing some certification, learning new skills and travel.Till then, I will want to accomplish my goals 1 by 1.. This is also part of my self training for determination and perseverance to see through my goal settings.

Goals for 2012
- IPPT Gold
- PMP Certification
- Learn Music (Electronic Keyboard)
- Owns a DSLR
- enroll in Class 2 riding license

Events for 2012
- March (Explore Ho Chi Minh)
- May (Diving @ Pulau Redang)
- July (Exchange @ Hawaii)
- Dec (Looking into a trip in Taiwan)

I will strike one by one out for this year...=)

Last Quarter of 2011

8 weeks since my last post.. and these 8 weeks had been very time-fulfilling (although it is stressful)..

Firstly, my 5th ICT that was held on the 5th Sept to 10th Sept had concluded and the department that I was in-charge of was accessed with B+, the second best band after A. In that ICT, my deputy was not around and I have to settle everything with my stand-in deputy. On top of that, I've make it sure that I would like to start from scratch again to guide everyone in my department to know what is going on during work proper. It's not easy. But I had already tried my best. Although we are accessed with the B+ banding, I always feel that we are still not up to the standard. There is still more room for improvement.

Secondly, I had been assigned the overall project lead for a portion of the SGP F1 Assignment. That was challenging. It was because it was a straight plunge into the assignment after my ICT. No time to catch a breather, no time to take a break. Luckily, I have the assistance from my colleagues that supported me throughout the 3 days of F1. And because of this opportunity that was given to me by my boss, my hardwork was appreciated by my Group General Manager and Managing Director. Nevertheless, I felt happy despite the late hours I spent as I got to know many new friends and faces who are working in the Singapore Tourism Board, Land Transport Authority as well as the Singapore Grand Prix Committee. The 3 days spent in Pan Pacific were awesome with these group of people. Never to mention that we popped champagne in the ballroom at the very last day of work!!!

Thirdly, soon after my assignment with F1, I was called upon my HR to announce that my probation period with the company is over and I will be getting my $$$ soon. Alright.. at least some monetary reward I can look into. =)

Lastly, I bought a new motorcycle. A motorcycle I have been looking for these few weeks after getting my Class 2A license. It is a 10 years old Honda Steed with original spray and design. The body is nicely chrome up and I have decided to ride this motorcycle without the box. Thus I trade aesthetic with convenience but I am looking for a suitable leather side bag to attach to my motorcycle such that it can put at least a helmet on 1 side and accessories on the other side.. Vroom Vroom..

So much for this post, not forgetting that the economy is quite bleak as the big brother in the west and Europe are all facing job issues and debt crisis. I do hope that our red dot has some preventive measure that can block out most of the crisis wave.

So much for the updates.. Stay Tune...

Double Victory within 48 hours

Yes.. I did it...

I've attained my Class 2A (201 - 400cc) Riding License despite 16 points deducted during the Traffic Police test. Most of my mistakes were from the General Riding section. I got to admit that the challenges are there for Class 2A as there were many cars around and the cars will not give way to Class 2A testees as it is a common mindset that Class 2A testees are considered experience in riding and have road experience. During the test, there were some hiccups and anxiety but all were overcome when I keep telling myself "Don't rush... Do it once, Do it good". Thanks to my constant "psycho-ing" that I managed to do my best and attained my third license.

Second Victory happened hours ago in Maju Camp. I was scheduled to take my annual IPPT this morning and prior to this test, I restricted my drinks and food intake and even fine tune my sleeping hours to make sure that I have enough rest. All efforts were paid off but I could not have made it alone. All thanks to WeiDian, a CDO comrade which I just got to know before the run and he said he is fine to pace me and keep me going.

The first 3 rounds were superb. I was running at 1 min 30 seconds (plus minus 5 seconds) constantly but fatigue starts to kick in when I was in my 4th round. From past experience, this is the moment where my mental has to overcome all possible distractions. From heavy breathing to heavy legs... you just have to tell yourself to maintain the pace on and on. Luckily, Weidian was behind me for the first 3 rounds and overtook me in the fourth round and I decided to run behind him and chase him all the way till the finishing line.

I came in at 9 mins 52 seconds and was very thrilled as it is my 2nd consecutive Gold for my reservist period.

The rest of the results for static stations are:

Chin up - 10 (5 points)
Situp - 36 (4 points)
Shuttle run - 9.5 sec (5 points)
Standing Board Jump - 234cm (5points)

To end this, I have to say my heartest thanks to those who have help me..

As the saying goes... "Tough Time don't last, Tough Men do...Do it once, Do it good"

Purpose in Life...

Its been months since my last post due to new workplace and my engagement in business. Time pass fast without me knowing that 2011 has already crossed it's halfway mark.

Sitting back in my office, looking outside the window... a question starts to ponder into my mind...

"What is my motivation and purpose in life"...

Got to find this answer soon..

新兵日记 Yes Sir!

Recently, I am hooked on a Taiwan (ROC) serial drama by the title of "新兵日记 (Rookie Diary)" and it reminds me of many good old memories when I was a soldier back in BMTC as recruit as well as officer.

The serial showcased the ROC army recruit training center, known as 成功领 (Success Peak) which I believed its one of the prominent camps in the country. Interestingly, many artistes participated in this show and what keeps me going on in watching the show is the hilarious scenarios trainee soldiers always posed for their sergeants and officers.

Beside the exaggerating scenarios, the show also introduced the military songs sung by the ROC soldiers which were very inspiring and motivational. When compared to our local army, I guessed our army songs are not as patriotic as them.

The show won many awards in 2010 and became one of the hot favorite serial drama in Taiwan ROC. With many famous artistes such as 杨培安,飞轮海,萧煌奇 aiding to the show by singing the main and ending theme and the rest of the casts by singing many more songs displayed in the show, the serial is definitely being enhanced by their singings and songs.

After watching the show, I was flooded with the good old memories of recruit training back in BMTC such as eating cup noodles secretly by the toilet balcony, shitting together in the forest, going through our 7 days field camps together, training hard to pass our fitness test so and so fore.. Although its a short 9 weeks, its the introductory phase of my 2 years National Service life. My BMT mates were also the first group of army friends I know when I was enlisted as a soldier. Although we did not contact as much as before, I wished them all the best in their career, family and wealth.

I guessed every Singaporean son who went through National Service will also have the same thought as I am when and after watching this show.
